Introduction to Traditional Calligraphy

Calligraphy is a delicate and elegant yet endangered craft. This 6-week course is an introduction to the art form’s true meaning: callikalos in Greek, meaning “fine,” and graphy from the Greek grapho meaning “write.” Following an old-school philosophy, and beginning with the fundamental methods and principles of implements and materials, students will be taught key calligraphy terms, structural guidelines, scale, angles, direction and basic pen strokes. No prior experience or skills are necessary. The only prerequisites are enthusiasm and the willingness to learn the skills needed to create beautiful letters. All supplies are provided.
