2016 - looking back, one year in our new home
Looking back: one year in our new home
2016 was a transformative year for the Katonah Art Center. In December 2015, we found our dream space in a 1912 schoolhouse. This time last year, we were working hard to tailor this beautiful, historic building to the needs of our teachers and students. The renovation itself was a creative feat: we had to strike a balance between preserving the building’s quirky character and adapting it to our purpose. The well-lit, high ceilinged classrooms upstairs became our drawing and painting studios, computer art lab, and office space. The lower floor now houses our spacious pottery studio, children’s studio, and new specialty studio equipped for metal-smithing, fused glass and printmaking.
With the new space came a new gallery. After years of space deficit, we are thrilled to be able to devote an entire room to showcasing the work of our students and teachers, as well as local and NYC artists. The Anderson Chase Gallery is intended to serve as a source of inspiration and opportunity for not only our immediate KAC family, but also the wider Northern Westchester and NYC communities. So far, the gallery has far surpassed our expectations.
We want to take this opportunity to thank our loyal customers for their continued support and participation in the vibrant community that is KAC. We look forward to seeing you this winter. Our open house and Free Arts Day is Saturday, January 7th 1:30-3:30pm and our new session begins January 9th.
